Chaplains Who Gave All

Chaplain Ignatius Maternowski
Franciscan Friar Conventual
508th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division

Chaplain Koyn tells the story of Chaplain Ignatius Maternowski, the only chaplain killed on D-Day.

Chaplain Ignatius Maternowski was killed on D-Day, June 6, 1944, after he negotiated with a German medic for a joint aid station for German and American wounded.

Chaplain Maternowski is little-known and all but forgotten today. Yet his sacrifice on D-Day shall not be buried in time. His selfless actions on June 6th are what motivates our group to promote Chaplain Maternowski toward sainthood.
